What Is Your Happy?

Recently I watched this documentary called HAPPY so I thought I'd share it with the rest of you who may not have seen it yet. I think it's a good time to share since we're still relatively fresh into the new year and if you think about it, people make new year's resolutions to achieve happiness in one form or another. Whether it's better health or a higher paying job, more fame, recognition, or to make the world a better place, everyone wants to be happy. Happppy!!!!

OK, I'll summarize a few points that stood out to me without trying to regurgitate the whole movie..

There are two categories of goals mentioned: intrinsic and extrinsic.

Intrinsic Goals 

• Personal Growth
• Relationships
• Desire to Help

Extrinsic Goals

• Money
• Image
• Status

They say that people who generally fall into the category of being driven by extrinsic goals are less happy while those who are driven by intrinsic ones are found to be happier. Now, I don't know how they researched or got data to prove all this so it's always best if you watch the movie for footnotes and details. I'm just giving you a few points.

Did you know that happiness is also genetics? Apparently we all have a set point for happiness.

Our happiness is 50% Genetics. I never knew we had a set point for happiness but yes it's part genetics or what you're born with.

What about circumstances, income, status, etc? Those only play 10%.

The other 40% is Intent. So use your 40% to be the happiest person you can be!!

After watching this documentary it shed some light into my life. Maybe it'll for you as well.

Also the movie says that a person who makes 5k a year and then eventually makes 50k would most definitely experience an increase in their happiness. But, a person who makes 50k a year vs 5M doesn't experience much or if any difference in how happy they are.
